Up on the rooftoop .....

RWYS Christmas Wish List

A couple of years ago, RWYS decided that most of us have lots of “stuff” and that the idea of exchanging gifts between ourselves had become rather passe´. Thus, we started a new tradition of giving gifts to RWYS. Below is a wish list of things that we can use, want or need. And, of course, it is fun to wrap them in Christmas paper because we will still like to open them…ooo and ahhh over them at the Christmas Party.

Pencil Sharpener

(Preferably, one that can be mounted and sharpen different sizes of pencils.)

Rotary Blades: 45 and 60’s

Rulers: 6 x 12 and 6 x 24 and 12-1/2” square

Masking tape, Packing Tape, and LARGE PACKING BOXES (i.e. Moving Boxes)

Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Napkins, etc.

Coffee, Creamer, Sugar, etc. (No TEA…we have lots)

Cleaning supplies (401 Cleaner, Windex)

Freezer Paper, Pressing Cloths, Applique Sheets (2 or 3)

Money (cash or check, please…see note below)

The Money is used for purchasing batting, replacing sewing notions, repair/cleaning of machines, office supplies, hospitality items, etc.

NOTE: please no gift cards, they are inconvenient for various members to use because they have to come and get them and we need to track them. Also, some of cards have a declining balance charge and other fees, etc. We can always reimburse members who purchase on behalf of RWYS, but using gift cards is truly more difficult.)

Finally, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO “GO OFF THE LIST” IF YOU HAVE NOTICED THAT WE ARE MISSING OTHER THINGS OR YOU JUST FIND SOMETHING WE MUST HAVE. THANK YOU.

WINDING DOWN

First of all, thank you, thank you for all of your prayers, cards, and goodies. Your support during this recent bout of illness has been very uplifting to me. I felt so bad about canceling the meeting and auction, but there was way too much to do and it would have been unfair to you . . .you all deserve the best auction possible!!! You’ve worked so hard throughout the year. Please note: THE AUCTION WILL BE HELD 10/19/10 IN A COMBINED MEETING.

Likewise, the Mystery Quilt will be unveiled on 10/19/10. Try not to miss this meeting as there will be a lot of information given to you on 10/5/10 regarding Year End Dates, Business, etc. Also, this will be our last “Sew ‘n Tell”……so dig through those UFOs and get them ready for Tuesday. Please know that those who at Retreat will be thinking of you all and will be anxious to get home to see the fruits of the harvest. Blog candy will be awarded also on 10/19/10, so get those comments onto the blog. If you do not have computer access, simply drop a line to Erika Hayes and she will post your comment.

Labor Day signifies the end of summer . . .ha…not in Phoenix, but at least it is getting close. It also signifies getting the year’s harvest of quilts and Angel Wraps finished up and ready for distribution. There are still many, many tops in need of quilting. We are so fortunate to have a lot of dedicated quilters in our midst….thank you for your service. This meeting, we’ll get another Mystery Clue. Fonda will have a new membership directory for us as well.

LAST CALL for auction items as we will have our auction at our next meeting 9/21. Don’t forget to bring your pool patch and have a chance to win the blocks. Our meeting on 9/21 is a COMBINED MEETING…so plan accordingly. Finally, hopefully, you’ve enjoyed doing the redwork. We still have blocks available, so if you want to do more, we have them. These blocks will go into quilts for our members who might need a Comfort Quilt. Also, don’t forget your crazy quilt squares. We got some super blocks at the last meeting.

KEEPING COOL

We’ll be thinking COOL once again as we start Christmas preparation. During these challenging economic times, homemade gifts are always welcome and in many ways reflect your thought and care far more than those quickie trips to the store to purchase gift cards. Homemade gifts include anything from cookies, candy, jars of premix, potholders, table runners, placemats, etc., etc., etc.
This program depends on YOU.
Please bring gift ideas to share…in the form of finished items (either that you made or received),patterns, recipes, or things you want to make. I know we can depend on Joy Books and Joy Olcott to come up with nifty ideas. We’ll do another pattern, recipe swap as we did last year.

REMEMBER YOUR PARTICIPATION IS KEY – YOU ARE THE PROGRAM

BLOG CANDY DRAWING IS ON 7/19…IF YOU WANT TO WIN A $40.00 PRIZE…..YOU NEED

TO GO ON THE BLOG….AND LEAVE A COMMENT. (You will be required to get a gmail account, but it is free and you need only use it when you log on to the blog…so don’t be afraid to sign up. Once you’re on….you’re on.)

Early Birds: 3:00 -3:30 Fellowship; 3:30 Meeting, GO Block, BOM, Calculator Class
Evening Song Birds: 6:30 - 7:00 Fellowship; 7:00 Meeting, GO Block, BOM Calculator Class
DOING THE MATH!
How many HST can you get from 1-3/8 yards of fabric? Do you care? Or, do you only work on those quilts where everything is already calculated for you? Maybe, you want to make it bigger or smaller than the instructions...so, how much fabric should you buy? How about calculating your actual cost of fabric? (Most of us don't want to know!) Or maybe, someone gave you an Australian quilt book and it is all calculated in metric...wouldn't you love to know how to change it to our standard measurements? Bring your quilt calculators as we work through some of these issues. Don't have one? Come anyway and share with someone who does. You might want to use a 40% off coupon and get one after class. I know Cindy Prevost has been waiting for this class. She has brought her calculator for several meetings.
Two other things: Blessings Day is THIS Saturday, April 17,2010 at 9:00am. We have loads to do! Also, have you visited our blog? (obviously, if you are reading this you have(inserted by Erika)) If not please do and sign up to follow the blog. There are some special things coming up for "RWYS Bloggers". Just put this address in your browser and you soon be there. Then be sure to bookmark it as a favorite which will make it easier to come and visit.

IN FULL BLOOM
Obviously, we are in full bloom... have you seen the desert? It is magnificent. It's amazing what a little water will do. Likewise, we can water our quilting, by just casting light showers of stitching on it throughout the week. A little here and a little there and suddenly, we have some bloomin' beautiful quilts. I'll bet Ilene Jackson's garden is already in full bloom as well.
Guess what?!?! we have a blog. We hope that you will join and follow the blog. It is our intent that this will become your main page of communication. So link up and let's have some fun. Offer ideas and suggestions. Your blog editor is Erika Hayes. You can find the blog by typing in the link below in your internet browser (the bar at the top when you log onto the internet.)
